The Cure spent this past Sunday at the funeral of their guitarist Perry Bamonte, who passed away on Christmas 2025.

That very day, however, they won the very first Grammys of their half-century-long career during the 68th annual award ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena on Sunday night, Feb. 1.

The first went for Best Alternative Music Award for their single “Alone,” while the band’s 2024 outstanding comeback LP Songs of a Lost World won Best Alternative Music Album.

The legendary British band’s leader, Robert Smith, took to social media post to recap the night:

SIMON, JASON, ROGER, REEVES AND I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE GRAMMY’S FOR THIS WONDERFUL AWARD;

WE ARE VERY HONOURED TO RECEIVE IT.

WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK;

EVERYONE WHO HELPED IN THE CREATION OF OUR SONGS OF A LOST WORLD ALBUM, PARTICULARLY CO-PRODUCER PAUL CORKETT;

EVERYONE IN THE UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP WHO WORKED SO HARD TO GET OUR LOST WORLD FOUND;

EVERYONE IN OUR MOSTLY INDEFATIGABLE CURE CREW, INCLUDING ALL THOSE AT PRIMARY AND CAA;

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, ALL THE CURE FANS AROUND THIS WORLD WHO CAME TO OUR LOST WORLD SHOWS AND ENJOYED OUR LOST WORLD MUSIC;

WITHOUT YOU, NONE OF THIS WOULD BE POSSIBLE.

THANK YOU.

But winning their first pair of Grammys wasn’t the only thing special about this past weekend for The Cure.

Originally released as the title track of the American version of The Cure’s debut album Three Imaginary Boys, as the group saw the release of the iconic 1986 version of their generational hit “Boys Don’t Cry,” a song that earned the group over a billion streams on Spotify as of this writing.

In honor of this achievement, Rhino Entertainment — in conjunction with their longtime American label Elektra Records — have released this brand new EP celebrating the song.

Initially released as a standalone single in the summer of 1979, “Boys Don’t Cry” became the title track of the U.S. edition of the band’s debut album, Three Imaginary Boys. The song went on to become one of the band’s signature tracks and achieved international success in 1986, when Robert Smith re-recorded the vocal and remixed the backing track.

Although this new version was created to promote the classic best of collection Staring At The Sea – The Singles, the LP itself featured the original recording, and the 7-inch version of “Boys Don’t Cry (New Voice – New Mix),” now retitled “Boys Don’t Cry (86 Mix),” is being released digitally for the first time.

All the material included on the CD, digital release and the forthcoming 12-inch (due out April 21) — “Boys Don’t Cry (86 Mix),” the 12-inch mix and its accompanying b-sides, “Plastic Passion,” “Pillbox Tales” and “Do The Hansa” — have been remastered by Matt Colton, best known for his work with such modern names as Wet Leg, James Blake and Little Simz along with such icons as The Rolling Stones, Oasis and the late Ozzy Osbourne.

The Cure will be playing live across Europe in Summer 2026. Additionally, Robert Smith is curating the Teenage Cancer Trust Shows at The Royal Albert Hall from March 23rd to 29th, featuring Elbow, Mogwai, Manic Street Preachers, My Bloody Valentine, Garbage, Wolf Alice and many more.
