Andre Cymone Shares ‘Stone in Love’
New LP, The Resurrection of Funk, out in August

Early Prince collaborator and Minneapolis funk architect Andre Cymone is back with a new LP coming out this August he’s calling The Resurrection of Funk.
Known for his production work in the ’80s with the likes of Jody Watley, Pebbles, Adam Ant, James Ingram and Evelyn “Champagne” King among others, Cymone has developed a distinct style of Twin Cities boogie all his own these last five decades with his songwriting and distinctive bass playing that is conveyed across this new collection and its latest single “Stone In Love.”
“‘Stone in Love’ is basically a love letter to the genre of funk music,” Cymone tells Rock & Roll Globe. “It’s a versatile piece of musical art that you can play when you want to party, when you want to make you some Love, you can play it when you’re in the backyard barbecuing or just hanging with some friends. It’s a combination of many styles of funk from old school to new school, from hip-hop to pop. The reality is, underneath a lot of the hip-hop songs you love and get your groove on too is funk music. Most folks don’t realize that, so I went back and reached deep into my bag of funky tricks filled with hooks and grooves inspired by life and pulled this funky one out for your funky listening pleasure!!!

“Yes, It’s a throwback to the kind of stuff I used to write as a teenager when I lived with my family in our house in Minneapolis on Russell. I was all about funk back them days… And now, I’m back. And bringing that funk back with me. It’s Resurrection Time! Funk music somehow got placed in the backseat of the musical conversation, I’m putting it back in the driver’s seat where it belongs and I need y’all to help me get the word and the funk out there!!!”
For the first time in his career, Cymone fully embraces the Minneapolis Sound he helped construct, giving the city that created him an extra-strength boost of good mojo after enduring two years of ICE-derived chaos and division.
