You don’t get much more New England than a band named Molly Maguires.

Since their formation in 2019, founding members JJ Sorensen and Meghan Earle have been — who met in 2010 while attending school at Framingham State University — have put together a band that illuminates the Northeast Irish spirit of the group’s music as they are joined by guitarist Jesse Coppa, multi-instrumentalist Jason G. Taylor, bassist Nathan Johnson III and drummer Sean Scro for their most formidable lineup yet.

On their latest LP, Public Enemies, the Mollies strip away much of the fanfare of their previous works to reveal the pure essence of their sound. It’s a shift that can be heard on the album’s opening track “October Sky,” which Rock & Roll Globe is happy to premiere today on the site.

“October Sky introduces the characters, themes and storyline of Public Enemies, which is essentially a concept album,” Sorensen explains. “As the opening track, it throws the listener immediately into the scene — two lovers, reunited at a house party, bound together by their circumstances. The entire aesthetic of this track is an introduction to the scenery and themes to follow over the course of the album. Ultimately, these characters are not going to break free from their situations, and we know this from the start, which places the listener into a sort of inescapable melancholy meant to mirror that of the characters.”
