Neil Young and Crazy Horse to Release Archival LP Early Daze
Long anticipated 10-song set out June 28th

Well, some of us might have missed Neil Young + Crazy Horse’s storied two-night stand at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, NY, this week.
But as a concession for those who don’t have the funds to catch them on the current Love Earth Tour (dates below), Uncle Neil announced the release of a long-rumored archival album focusing on the Horse in its infancy.
Early Daze is a collection of 10 rare and unreleased studio recordings cut in 1969 with a Crazy Horse line-up comprised of Danny Whitten (guitar and vocals), Ralph Molina (drums and vocals), Billy Talbot (bass and vocals) and Jack Nitzsche (keyboards, tambourine, and vocals). None of these tracks have been released on LP before.
Only a couple of these tunes were previously released in some capacity, namely the Nitzsche and Young composition “Dance Dance Dance,” which initially appeared on Archives Vol. 1, and the original 7-inch mono mix of “Cinnamon Girl,” originally released on April 20, 1970 and includes a guitar outro that wasn’t featured on the LP version.

The rest of Early Daze, meanwhile, contains original versions of such Neil faves as “Come On Baby Let’s Go Downtown,” “Winterlong,” “Helpless” and a take on “Down By The River” with alternate vocals. There’s also a deep cut written by Whitten, “Look At All The Things,” that would appear on the first Neil-less Crazy Horse album in 1971. The entire LP is telltale of an exciting time at the crossroads of folk and rock in the late 60s, with Neil and the Horse leading the charge with amplified passion.
Early Daze is due out on June 28 on black vinyl, compact disc and digital. A limited edition clear vinyl edition, which includes an exclusive poster, will be available through the Greedy Hand Store and at independent retailers. Hi-Res digital audio will be available at the Xstream Store through Neil Young Archives and most DSPs.
Listen to “Everybody’s Alone,” a different mix of which appeared on Archives Vol. 1, below.
