WATCH: Briget Boyle Shares Video for “Heartbreak Residue”
The Bay Area singer-songwriter exercises through the grief on the title track to her latest album

The daughter of renowned audio engineer Tim Boyle (The Rolling Stones, Quincy Jones, Tom Waits), Bay Area singer-songwriter Briget Boyle has a natural gift for music.
And on her latest album Heartbreak Residue, she continues to utilize the wisdom bestowed upon her by her late father with a collection of songs that sit at the intersection of grief and heartbreak, and how these emotions linger throughout our lives. These songs were written in a lonely one-bedroom apartment in Oakland, a bedroom in the basement in Chicago, and surrounded by majestic rocks and deeply rooted Berkeley trees. It was recorded at ModernTone Studios in Lafayette, CA, where Boyle is a vocal, guitar, and songwriting coach.
Produced by Modern Tone owner Jacob Light, the record features Boyle on guitar and vocals, Light on electric guitar and synths, Genesis Fermin on drums and bassist David Wellerstein. Backing vocals were provided by Tim Silva, singer-songwriter Karen Tobin (who also happens to be Boyle’s mother), and legendary Bay Area vocalist Vicki Randle. Lewis Patzner played cello, Michael Bang played piano, and Juliana Graffagna from True Life Trio played accordion on “Even-Keeled Heart.”

Rock & Roll Globe is honored to premiere the video for one of the album’s finest songs, its title cut, which was co-written with Adri Walker, a 15-year-old student of Boyle’s at ModernTone. And while the clip utilizes humor with its lampooning of 80s exercise videos, the gravity of Boyle’s words still permeates through the humor.
“The music video ‘Heartbreak Residue’ showcases imagery from a 1980s workout symbolizing the desire to lose the weight of a relationship gone wrong,” she explains. “While feelings and desires are promised by the sweetness of intentions, they only wind up on the ground in a mess of toxicity. Therein lies the crux of the music video. My intention in directing it was to symbolically show how the main character, Briget, showed strength and poise as she moved toward freedom, only to be tempted and dominated by the sweetness of the fiery connection.”
Heartbreak Residue is available now on BandCamp. Fans of Kathleen Edwards, Liz Phair and boygenius alike will find much to appreciate in her honest melodies.
