By day, Myke Adams is an accomplished visual artist who has collaborated with everyone from Spike Lee to the Detachment Kit to Brendan Benson.

But music is at the core of this second generation act, whose dad was a member of the New Orleans songwriting team Wardell Quezergue, who collaborated with such legends as Irma Thomas, Jean Knight and the Pointer Sisters.

“When I was a kid, I would come home from school and listen to my parents’ records obsessively,” he said about his upbringing.  “My dad had a lot of jazz records. But it was when my parents took me to see Miles Davis in concert when I became hooked and asked my parents to buy me a trumpet…and they did.”

Now based in Los Angeles under the aegis MA Jolie Fleur, Adams releases the first single off his forthcoming EP, Detachments, which will be out in December. Entitled “Let’s Get Out of Here” with vocal accompaniment by Alexandria Leigh, this six-minute paean to the complexities of romance serves as a tribute to Adams’ dual loves for the music of both Motown and Depeche Mode.

“When writing the chorus, I really wanted to try to capture the soulfulness and groove that groups like The Supremes and The Temptations created with harmonies,” Adams explains. “And have the overall vibe of the song have the playfulness and flow of an upbeat Depeche Mode song.”

Myke’s musical influences include Love, Brian Eno, Bad Brains, Miles Davis, David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Spaceman 3, Velvet Underground, , Depeche Mode,  Ornette Coleman and Public Enemy.
