Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath ‘Back to the Beginning’ Out Dec. 11
Concert soundtrack and film celebrates beloved singer’s final stand

A documentary/concert film chronicling the final performance of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath was released in movie theaters worldwide today.
And based on the early buzz from the music press, seeing the cinematic encapsulation of the 10-hour concert at Villa Park in the band’s hometown of Birmingham, England, on the big screen was as resonant as it was being there in real time, albeit with an added helping of sorrow.
“On the day itself last July, Back To The Beginning was an emotional charge, a 10-hour salute to Ozzy and Sabbath from one of the maddest line-ups ever assembled, on a schedule that still looks impossible even though it literally happened (and, unbelievably, didn’t only not run over, but managed to finish a few minutes ahead of schedule),” wrote Nick Ruskell of Kerrang this week. “As Ozz took to the stage in his throne for the final time, in the same postcode from which he and his bandmates came, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. If those were tears of joy and celebration at seeing the big man back onstage… watching it back on the big screen adds a pinch of sadness to the mix as well. As we know now, barely a fortnight later, he was gone.”
Following the concert’s cinematic unveiling comes the news that both the film and its soundtrack will be released on Dec. 11 in a variety of formats, including including a 2-disc Blu-ray and CD edition, 2LP vinyl and 2-disc Blu-ray collection with exclusive limited-edition coloured vinyl variants (grey splatter vinyl available at Ozzy’s store, purple splatter vinyl available at the Black Sabbath store and metallic vinyl at specialty/indie shops), along with a digital album.
A deluxe box set, featuring an expanded collection of music, memorabilia and collectables, will be available to pre-order from Oct. 28 ahead of its release in April 2027. This will include a bonus HD Blu-ray featuring all 35 Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath songs and covers performed by special guests. The soundtrack is set for worldwide release via Mercury Studios.

Watched by a record-breaking live audience across the globe, Ozzy’s final performance at Villa Park marked the first show from the original Black Sabbath lineup in more than 20 years. And the mighty quartet of Ozzy, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward — despite all being in their 70s — performed with the power and passion of men who have ageless souls that can still command a crowd with thunderous versions of “War Pigs,” “N.I.B.,” “Ironman” and “Paranoid,” albeit sadly for the last time as Osbourne would pass away 17 days later.
The lead-up to the final Sabbath performance was a spectacle as well. The concert — hosted by Jason Momoa with musical director Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine guitarist) — included sets from some of the biggest names in hard rock and metal including from Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Gojira, Guns N Roses, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Metallica, Pantera, Rival Sons, Slayer, and Tool, along with All-Star segments with special guests Adam Wakeman, Andrew Watt, Billy Corgan, Chad Smith, David Draiman, David Ellefson, Jake E. Lee, KK Downing, Mike Bordin, Nuno Bettencourt, Papa V Perpetua (Ghost), Ronnie Wood, Rudy Sarzo, Sammy Hagar, Sleep Token II, Steven Tyler, Travis Barker, Vernon Reid, Whitfield Crane, and Yungblud.
With a running time of three and a half hours, the Blu-Ray features highlights from the July 5 performances, plus special guest performances of Jack Black performing “Mr. Crowley” and Fred Durst performing “Changes.”
Alongside the concert, there’s a collection of bonus features, including a behind-the-scenes featurette, video tributes (highlights include clips from Dolly Parton, AC/DC, Ricky Gervais and more) and ‘Sounds of Birmingham’ Documentary.
Directed for screen by Ben Wainwright-Pearce, with the live concert directed by Tim van Someren, Ozzy Osbourne & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning was produced by Mercury Studios, the world’s leading music-focused content studio. Trafalgar Releasing brought the film to cinemas worldwide as a global event cinema release, continuing its work bringing major music events and performances to audiences around the world.
“Back to the Beginning was a once-in-a-lifetime event that will go down in music history,” says Sharon Osbourne, who oversaw the legendary concert and executive-produced the film. “Ozzy suffered from chronic pain during the final six years of his life. His only wish was to perform one last time to thank his fans and say goodbye. It was an incredible day when his peers in the rock world descended on Aston from all over the globe to celebrate his legendary talent and extraordinary legacy.”
Tristan Whitlam of Mercury Studios said: “Back to the Beginning is a remarkable document of a day that brought the music community together on an extraordinary scale. For Mercury Studios, the opportunity to preserve these performances and the stories surrounding them was incredibly meaningful. These special home entertainment and music releases give fans the opportunity to revisit that historic day and experience the performances, tributes and emotion of the occasion for years to come.”
