A lavish new box set has just been announced honoring the career of late Motörhead guitarist Fast Eddie Clarke.

Entitled Make My Day: The Rock ‘n’ Roll Story Of Fast Eddie Clarke, the four-CD collection aims to take the listener through the career of the hard rock and heavy metal icon.

Hand selected by Clarke’s widow Mariko Fujiwara, the 47-track set kicks off with The Early Years, which includes tracks from Curtis Knight’s prog-blues group Zeus and his subsequent band Continuous Performance with Bebop Deluxe bassist Charlie Tumahai, along with three tracks from the legendary Muggers, who Eddie and Philthy ‘Animal’ Taylor played with in 1978 along with ‘Speedy’ Keen and Heartbreakers bassist Billy Rath.

Disc two covers the Motörhead era, highlighting Eddie’s most outstanding performances with the ‘classic lineup’ of Lemmy, Philthy ‘Animal’ Taylor, including ‘Ace Of Spades’ and other brutal staples, not to mention three previously unreleased Bomber album demos and his vocal performances on the Headgirl project with Girlschool, namely “Stone Dead Forever.”

The third CD, meanwhile, tackles his work in Fastway, the underrated band Fast Eddie formed with UFO bassist Pete Way after departing from Motörhead in 1982, including demos, remixes and tracks from their eight albums.

The fourth and final disc focuses on Clarke’s two solo albums, 1994’s It Ain’t Over ‘Till It’s Over and his unintended 2014 swan song Make My Day: Back To The Blues, created with Shakatak’s Bill Sharpe. There’s also an alternative mix of the song “21st Century” from his short-lived project Black Electric.

Also included in this box set is a 320-page biography of Clarke written by renowned British music journalist Kris Needs, who was an early champion of Motörhead as editor of the early British rock magazine Zigzag. The book finds Needs recalling his own experiences and interactions with Clarke interspersed with detailed insights from not only Mariko but an intriguing cast of friends, bandmates and associated acts including Girlschool and Saxon.

“The book that named the set, Make My Day: The Rock ‘N’ Roll Story Of Fast Eddie Clarke charts the guitarist’s life and career including his epiphany seeing the Yardbirds at Eel Pie Island, playing with assorted bands, recording two albums with former Jimi Hendrix associate Curtis Knight, riding with Motörhead’s most revered lineup between 1976 and 1982, forming Fastway and releasing two solo albums,” states the press release announcing the box set. “Mariko and Eddie’s closest friends provide detailed insights into Eddie’s life, including growing up in Twickenham, topping charts with Motörhead, overcoming personal problems, finding happiness with Mariko and becoming the smitten co-owner of Cookie the Maltese-Shihtzu cross.”
