In the midst of a U.S. tour, West Virginian Jesse Lynn Madera has just dropped a brand new single called “Woke Up in LA” on all DSPs.

The song, Madera reveals, has been one she has been keeping on the back burner for a hot minute now.

Drawing on the allure of Los Angeles and looking back at her time in New York, the new release is an intimate exploration of loneliness and revival between two loving partners.

“‘Woke Up In LA’ has been a back-pocket song for over 10 years, waiting for its right time,” she admits. “It is a testament to resilience and the persistence of love, even through ‘the dog days.’ It’s the artist’s job to reflect the truth, to hopefully help the listener feel seen and understood through having the courage to try to understand ourselves.”

News of Madera’s latest single comes alongside the announcement of her U.S. tour dates, which kicked off in Houston, Texas at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck on April 16 and closes out in New York’s The Cutting Room on May 1.

Madera will also be making her U.K. debut supporting Colin Blunstone of The Zombies on a 16-date tour kicking off May 7-May 28, stopping off at renowned venues such as Stoller Hall in Manchester, Howard Assembly Ro0om in Leeds and closing out in London’s famous Union Chapel.

Madera — whose shape-shifting approach to songwriting has earned her comparisons to Kate Bush, Bonnie Raitt and Tori Amos — says she is eager to embrace change as she takes her career to new heights.

“I feel less protective of my experiences now. I have so many tales to tell and I want to claim my story.”
