His Name Is Alive Announce 4AD Box Set

His Name Is Alive, the longtime creative vehicle of Michigan darkwave pioneer Warren Defever, has been a staple of the 4AD catalog for 35 years.

And in celebration of the project’s early works, the iconic indie imprint is releasing a strictly limited edition box set on September 27th entitled How Ghosts Affect Relationships: 1990-1993.

This six-LP, 77-track collection, only available through the 4AD webstore and Bandcamp, brings together the first three HNIA albums (1990’s Livonia, 1991’s Home Is In Your Head and 1993’s Mouth By Mouth), sourced from the original analogue tapes and painstakingly remastered by Defever himself (at Third Man Mastering), with three additional LPs of rich, bonus material and unreleased tracks (including The Dirt Eaters EP).

The set is also accompanied by an extensive 36-page book written by 4AD biographer Martin Aston, which details the fascinating story of His Name Is Alive’s early period with previously unseen imagery and ephemera, as well as written contributions from label founder Ivo Watts-Russell, Johnny Jewel and more.

The collection of only 1,000 Limited Edition Foil-Stamped Numbered copies, delivered in a hard slipcase box, also features overall design by Chris Bigg, respectfully reimagined from original Art Direction and Design by the late Vaughan Oliver/v23. Also in the box comes a replica of each album’s original promotional poster, and a signed print. 

In celebration of the upcoming box set, His Name Is Alive will also embark on a brief U.S. headline tour, set to begin in September. Find more information below.
