LISTEN: Stavro Shares “Everything”
New album, You Turning World, out October 25th

Stavro is no doubt one of the most singular voices to emerge from the robust indie rock scene out of Omaha, Nebraska.
His excellent new album, You Turning World, will be released on October 25th, and turns a new page on a classic indie sound by incorporating elements of his Greek heritage into the fray. Namely the Cretan lute, which Stavro picked up at an Athenian flea market and learned to play under the tutelage of master lute player George “Psarogiorgis” Xylouris of the band Xylouris White.

Produced by genre veteran Ben Brodin at both ARC Studios and Hand Branch Studio in Omaha, You Turning World is a singer-songwriter album hiding inside an art-rock epic. And Rock & Roll Globe is incredibly honored to premiere the album’s first single “Everything” today on the site.
“I like when songs merge opposites together,” he explains of the tune, whose melodies will no doubt appeal to fans of Radiohead and early Sufjan Stevens. “‘Everything’ has one of the simplest choruses I’ve ever written—poppy and very straightforward. But as it repeats in the song’s second half, all of the sonic elements around it get more crazed and colorful, like they’re in a pressure cooker.

“I wanted to explore that contrast lyrically as well on ‘Everything.’ The verses, while somewhat short, are dense with natural imagery and self-consciousness. At the time I wrote them I was inspired by works that explored the personality of the natural world, like George Macdonald’s Phantastes—a book filled with haunted woods and other wonders. The choruses, on the other hand, are brief and open-ended, hopefully leaving the narrative in the hands of the audience and their imagination. On the whole, ‘Everything’ is a song about intense emotion and the search for what to do with it.
