After a string of successful singles over the last couple of years, ZADA will finally release her debut full-length, Water in the Desert, on March 1st.

The album consists of eight songs done in collaboration with longtime creative partners Brian West and Chin Injeti that signify the wide variety of talents the Ethiopia-born, British Columbia-based 20-year-old possesses as both a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

Rock & Roll Globe is proud to share the new single from Water in the Desert “Walls” today on the site. Originally conspired as a poem, the album’s fourth single has been finessed into an airy, cinematic groove – anchored by drummer Howard Gill – that propel ZADA’s artistry into a neon daydream. Her stirring combination of folk, alternative R&B and Afrobeat will no doubt blend well in a mix featuring Taylor Swift, Burna Boy and Hiatus Kaiyote.

“I say it was the hardest song for me to write because it was vital for me to find the right tone; I wanted to leave room for those who can relate to vulnerability, insecurity and crisis,” she explains about the process of crafting the song, which became part of the album’s bedrock. “We (Chin Injeti and Brian West) worked on the instrumental for half of the day. We’d set up a DIY writing session; it was our third day in. The kitchen table supported two speakers, and placed at opposite end, we set up a mic. Some days, we’d work on one track, and one day, we did 15. ‘Walls’ was one of the first songs we recorded for the album Water In The Desert; it became our backbone and one of the project’s pillars. We had the whole song realized in a day, and after we finished, we played it stripped – watching the sunset. I learned quite a few lessons, ‘Walls’ felt like something I’d been yearning to say but couldn’t wrap my head around singing the words out loud. Brian helped me tap into my poetry, and took the fear of sharing while Chin opened my eyes to expanding on vocal expression. This song carries so many memories; watching Brian play guitar while Chin and I sang, going on long walks with my best friend, and hanging out with my mom. The crew was free to talk about everything under the sun, so we made a record we could all visualize.”
