ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard is temporarily stepping away from the band’s current Elevation tour for health reasons, according to a statement from their management.

According to the report, Beard will be off the road for an undisclosed amount of time. Joining frontman/guitarist Billy F. Gibbons and bassist Elwood Francis until his return will be longtime drum tech John Douglas, who had previously filled in for Frank in 2002 for a concert in Paris when Beard had to undergo an emergency appendectomy.

According to SetList.fm, Beard was not on hand at the Texas trio’s this past Friday night in Florida at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.

ZZ Top is scheduled to perform Sunday night at the Seven Seas Food Festival in Orlando. The band’s current North American tour is slated to wrap up on April 12, and from there the trio is trekking to Australia and New Zealand before returning back to North America for more dates in June.

We wish Frank a full recovery and looking forward to seeing him back on the road later this year.
