New single quickly follows the Long Island band’s acclaimed fourth album, 2023’s Everything Harmony

Hot off the heels of a successful 2023, Long Island’s own The Lemon Twigs waste no time in the new year with a freshly squeezed tune called “My Golden Years.”
The supremely catchy song seamlessly follows the Barnaby Bye-esque soft rock dynamism that made their Captured Tracks debut, Everything Harmony, a platter du jour for the music press both stateside and in the UK. Why we didn’t include Everything Harmony on our own Top 40 of 2023 is no doubt a decision we need to live with for the rest of our days.
But where Everything Harmony’s AM gold serves as a satisfying sidestep from the 60s-leaning psych pop vibes that informed their first LPs for 4AD, “My Golden Years” finds the D’Addario Brothers jumping into an infectious 12-string jangle that’s caught in a wormhole between The Byrds’ Mr. Tambourine Man and Let’s Active’s Cypress.
Thematically, the Brothers profess the song serves as a reminder about “making every minute count and living up to your potential.”
“In that sense we think that people like Mark Ruffalo or people who hike might like the song,” they joke in a public statement about the song. “Or it could be good while you’re working out.”

However one perceives it’s message, the video for “My Golden Years” does not shy away from its cheeky tributes to Beatles movies and the Monkees’ TV series, as director Ambar Navarro captures the band running around Los Angeles and its contrasting environs.
“The ‘My Golden Years’ video is about looking back at the good old days, and the highs and lows of trying to make it as a band,” Navarro explains of the video. “We wanted to incorporate situations like being broke and getting kicked out while being playful and humorous about it. When you’re trying to make it as an artist there’s this vulnerability of putting yourself out to constant rejection that can be tough, but the band finds their full peace and freedom in performing in an open field.”
