As anyone who turned their nose to Pink Floyd’s The Division Bell can attest, having the group leader’s wife pen the lyrics to the songs isn’t always the best look.

Such is not the case, however, when it comes to the excellent new album from Thurston Moore, which features the wise words of his wife Eva Prinz atop some of the former Sonic Youth guitarist’s best solo work since Trees Outside the Academy.

For fans of Moore’s label, Daydream Library Series — a subsidiary of Ecstatic Peace Library, Flow Critical Lucidity will also be their final release in a physical format.

In an announcement by Prinz, the label’s CEO, on Dec. 17, Daydream will cease production of records, CDs and cassettes in 2025, citing the desire to reduce their use of plastics.

Prinz also acknowledged that some of the label’s “artists are climate activists and no longer complicit knowing their art recorded to compact discs will sit in landfills taking centuries to decompose.” She encouraged the community to “collect vintage records, and make fewer plastics and new albums. There isn’t any more time to lose. All industries must get behind respecting precious resources of this planet.”

Prinz also announced the appointment of a New Artist Liaison, Reed Smidebush, who will begin work effective New Year’s Day 2025. In his role, Reed will be assisting new artists in engaging with digital streaming platforms, informing them of the online content contributions, such as music videos, interactive play and games.

The label’s forthcoming digital releases in 2025 will include new tracks from Devon Ross, Thurston Moore Group and The Fall’s Brix Smith.

So while collectors might shed a tear for the possibility of a world without a hard copy of the next Thurston LP, we nonetheless look forward to what lies ahead for this most auspicious imprint.

Wow….what a stand. It would be funny to see how many evil plastic items these two have in their house. Its also going to be funny when they pivot on this stance in a few years. LOL.

Prinz is such a loser and a leech with no identity of her own. I can see the goddess Kim Gordon rolling her eyes at the lame virtue signalling.

Nobody even listens to Thurston but everybody agrees Kim is an icon. Prinz should just stfu and remove herself from public life – nobody cares what she has to say

My sentiment as well. Very interesting! Was just reading about how TM and EP were embracing the physicality of objects and their talismanic appeal ( an article from 2010). Let’s see how long this peace out lasts..
