Fulton Lights Announces New LP ‘Best World’

Andrew Spencer Goldman’s Fulton Lights is back with a new album, Best World, coming out this fall.
Written and produced by Goldman and mixed by Grammy-nominated Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu, Book of Knots) at Studio G, Best World grew out of sessions that marked Fulton Lights’ return after a long quiet period following 2018’s Moonwalking into the Future.
After spending the last few years accumulating song ideas to be fleshed out at a later date, longtime collaborator TJ Lipple of Aloha fame finally convinced Goldman to book studio time.
“A welcome slap in the face from an old friend,” Goldman says.

Best World brings into full view a body of work that has been gradually revealing itself over the past year. Following the critically acclaimed Well the Night Has Come EP and the subsequent release of the album’s title track, the complete eight-song album adds three previously unheard songs and brings the entire work together on vinyl for the first time.
One of those songs is “A Little Bit Low,” which captures Fulton Lights on its most ambitious track to date. Anchored by James Ilgenfritz on contrabass, the song sprawls for six minutes evoking Hex-era Earth and features lyrics deeply rooted in Jewish tradition.
“I’m a pretty secular person and don’t know why this image came to me, but I was reminded of something I’d learned decades ago as a kid growing up Jewish about the pomegranate supposedly having 613 seeds, lining up with the number of possible ‘mitzvot’ (good deeds),” Goldman explains. “There’s a combination here of this feeling that things are degenerating, violently breaking down, and yet yielding something regenerative and hopeful, and trying to do my part for the latter.”
