It takes a lot of moxie to borrow a song title from an already-established tune synonymous with another musician.

But New Jersey’s Doug Kistner did the trick with “Turn the Page,” the latest single from the forthcoming album from his Studio D’Lux ensemble, entitled The Allstar Project, which features a sound that pays homage to that late 70s/early 80s period when acts like Steely Dan and Christopher Cross ruled the roost more so than Bob Seger’s Detroit-born soul rock.

“Most of ‘Turn the Page’ was already recorded but luckily, at the last minute I started singing the ‘Leave all that baggage behind you’ line,” states Kistner. “I’m really proud of the horn arrangement and the guys nailed it. It was really exciting to work with Ron Nevison for the first time too.”

Producer Nevison, of course, is most famous for his work on such classic albums as Thin Lizzy’s Nightlife, UFO’s Lights Out, the self-titled Heart album from 1985, Ozzy Osbourne’s severely underrated The Ultimate Sin and the first Damn Yankees record among other titles.

Meanwhile, assisting Kistner in fleshing out his “Turn the Page,” the video of which you can check out below, is a mind-blowing ensemble of players including Billy Joel drummer Liberty Devitto, master bassist Leland Sklar (Phil Collins, The Immediate Family), Chicago guitarist Keith Howland along with a brass section featuring Steve Jankowski on trumpet, saxophonist Tom Timko and trombone player Dan Hendrix.

Studio D’Lux is stage ready and will celebrate The Allstar Project’s release with a show at The Suffolk in Riverhead, New York, on March 1. Kistner will be joined by Liberty on drums, Howland on guitar and a three-piece horn section. Along with tracks from the new album, Studio D’Lux will perform songs by Chicago, Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers and other favorite songs from the 1970s.
