Def Leppard has announced a reissue campaign celebrating the belated 40th anniversary of their breakthrough third LP Pyromania featuring a ton of previously unreleased material, rare live footage and a whole lot more.

Entitled Pyromania 40, the new edition will be available on April 26th in a number of formats, including a four-CD/Blu-ray box, a one-LP half-speed master, two-LP black vinyl, two-LP colored vinyl, a two-CD set and digitally.

Frontman Joe Elliott serves as executive producer on the set, while the mastering was completed by the band’s longtime sound engineers Ronan McHugh and Andy Pearce.

The four-CD/Blu-ray box is obviously the one to get if you’re a superfan of either the band or the album itself. It includes the remastered original album along with a full disc of demos, including an outtake of the album’s storied 11th track “No You Can’t Do That.” It also contains live footage from Def Leppard’s December 1983 concert at Germany’s Westfalenhallen, a September 1983 concert at the Forum in Inglewood, California, several official videos and an instrumental mix of the album. Also on the Blu-ray is all 10 original tracks in Dolby Atmos, overseen by Giles Martin himself.

A rough mix of “Photograph” with an unfinished vocal is available now on all streaming platforms, but you can find it below along with the full track listing.

Originally released on January 20, 1983, Pyromania transformed Def Leppard from a rising heavy metal act into an international pop juggernaut, selling 10 million copies in the U.S. alone thanks to the runaway success of such infectious singles as “Photograph,” “Rock of Ages” and “Foolin’.” The album also marked the debut of former Girl guitarist Phil Collen into the fold, and the second Leppard LP to feature production from Mutt Lange, who previously worked with the band on 1981’s High ‘n’ Dry.

“Pyromania is a really special album for obvious reasons,” Collen said in a statement. “It was the first time we all worked together with Mutt Lange, and I was able to play with my incredible friend Steve Clark, who was such a gifted and wonderful guitarist. I am incredibly proud of the album and what we collectively achieved.”

“A labor of love and I loved every minute of it,” Elliott adds. “Rediscovering dusty old cassettes which were brilliantly restored by Ronan and finding the long lost unfinished ’11th track’ was a journey only few of us are lucky enough to take … what a trip!”

“Right from the very early days we had a specific idea of how we wanted to sound,” recalls bassist Rick Savage. “A massive wall of guitars and drums supporting huge vocals and melodies. That vision came to fruition with the making of Pyromania. Even now it still has that special quality that made it such a ground-breaking record. It’s a testament to the songs that they remain the fans’ favourites and true cornerstones of any Leppard show. 40 years? It doesn’t even seem like 40 days.”

Def Leppard will be embarking on a U.S. stadium tour with Journey this summer, kicking off on July 6th at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO. Click here for the full list of dates.
