Billy Brandt is a mainstay of the Seattle music scene with his ambitious blend of jazz, rock, blues and soul.

And today, the Hanover, Massachusetts-born singer-songwriter has released his conceptual fourth LP, The Lucky Hustle & The Side Show Shuffle.

The premise of the new album was inspired by a pump organ Brandt had discovered in the basement of legendary Seattle recording space Studio X, formerly known as Bad Animals where all the Jet City giants cut their classic albums back in the day.

And from the sounds of that pump organ sprung forth a hypnotic, cinematic collection of songs that fans of Tom Waits and Mose Allison alike will no doubt appreciate.

“Whether you’re a ticket buyer or a ticket seller, we all have access to the carnival, the cabaret, the hustle called life,” Brandt tells Rock & Roll Globe. “We’re lucky to be here. It’s a Lucky Hustle — sometimes you’re stuck in the sideshow, sometimes you’re under the big tent. But cool things happen. They always do. The barker calls out, ‘Come one, come all! Come to the carnival!’ But we’re already here. Somehow. So now we’ve got to enjoy the show that we’re all part of.

“This album is me doing just that — telling stories of the people I’ve met, the rides I’ve been on, and the ones I’ve witnessed. It’s music made from the midway. A soundtrack for the strange, the beautiful, the absurd, and the true. And making it was more fun than any Ferris wheel. I hope you enjoy it.”

Buy the ticket, take the ride, and give The Lucky Hustle & The Side Show Shuffle a spin below.
