The Freak Accident Announce New LP ‘The Midnight Show’
5th album from SF punk stalwarts out Feb. 6; listen to ‘Fairy Tales’ below

Bay Area punk veteran Ralph Spight, who rose to prominence in the California punk scene as part of such projects as Victims Family and Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine, is back with a new album from his current endeavor The Freak Accident.
Entitled The Midnight Show, it’s the group’s fifth LP together and aims to prove that the San Francisco punk scene is just as rowdy and insurgent as it has been for nearly 50 years. Especially with the likes of Spight, bassist Austin Lannan and drummer Stark Raving Brad at the forefront bringing that classic Alternative Tentacles-style maximum rock ‘n’ roll back into the spotlight.
The Midnight Show comes out on Feb. 6 via Nadine Records/Nerve Center Recordings, but Rock & Roll Globe is happy to give our readers an early taste of the album with the premiere of its second single “Fairy Tales” today on the site.

“‘Fairy Tales’ came about because I’d been working on the song ‘Catbird Seat,’” Spight explains. “I just started thinking it would be great if there was another song that kept that same kinda punk rock party vibe going after that song ended since ‘catbird’ is so short. I made a demo in Garageband with synth bass but we could never quite make a bass synth work for Austin so I added these harmonics on my baritone guitar through my micro synth pedal which gave it that swirl while retaining the straight ahead punk vibe. I really like turning cliches on their heads so adding Brad’s drum solo through a flanger into a key change really appealed to me. The album is basically cut live, but there are a lot of tasty sonic Easter eggs throughout without it sounding super over produced. I think it’s great because the album sounds raw and live but there’s always something surprising to wrap your ear around.”
Featuring an eye-popping cover from esteemed poster artist Zoltron, The Midnight Show promises to be The Freak Accident’s catchiest work to date.
