King Pari Announces Debut LP, There It Goes

Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz isn’t the only hot commodity to emerge from the great state of Minnesota this week.

Stones Throw Records is proud to announce the debut album from Minneapolis’ King Pari, a duo of bedroom funkateers comprised of musicians Joe Paris Christensen and Cameron Kinghor.

Though now based in Los Angeles, the band’s Twin Cities funk pedigree anchors their music. Both Joe and Cameron have played alongside some of Prince’s closest associates, and Joe’s previous band was among the last that Prince personally invited to play at Paisley Park before his untimely death in 2016. As King Pari, the pair has already made waves on the national funk and jazz scenes with a storied first gig opening for Kamasi Washington.

The debut LP from these Los Angeles transplants, There It Goes, comes out digitally on October 18th. But today, King Pari are premiering the album’s latest single, “Bag. Full. Of. Cash.,” a lo-fi spin on a classic film comedy plot point illustrated by a funny, semi-animated video you can watch below.

“’Bag. Full. Of. Cash.’ tells the story of finding a bag full of cash when money is running out, but instead of it changing your life and lifestyle all it does is provide you the ability to pay for necessities like food, rent, utilities, a kitchen table, shoes,” the band explains in a collective statement. “We wrote the song at a time when both of us were feeling particularly strapped for cash, and we wanted to write a song about how we were feeling at the time but in a way that wasn’t asking for sympathy.

“To sum it up… ‘Used to wanna scream, now I’m livin’ the dream // turnin’ American to Cheddar cheese // Cheddar please // Cheddar cheese // Cheddar please.’”
