Skinny Blue craft blues-rock heaviness indicative of their region here in these United States.

That, of course, being the Pacific Northwest, where Thys Wallwork, Kevin Blackwood and Collin Ray craft a style that fans of such legends as Screaming Trees, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden will most definitely appreciate. And through constant local gigging have established a following hungry for studio music from the trio.

Lucky for them, a big win in a local battle of the bands competition earned them a day of tracking at the famed Robert Lang Studios, where they cut their first material.

“Collin and Kevin walked into that recording with very little knowledge of the songs, so we really wrote them while we were tracking” says Wallwork. “It was no frills, just hold onto your seat and find your place! I’ve been in a few different bands, but this has always been unique.”

Three records later, Blackwood — a longtime presence on the Seattle scene best known for his work with Jesse Sykes — and the boys continue to foster a strong bond of friendship and inspiration that can be heard ringing loud and clear on their latest single “I Tried.”

“This song is for anyone who’s just realizing they may have an addiction,” Blackwood tells Rock & Roll Globe. “That moment when you look back at yourself and wonder, ‘Is this starting to affect my life?”m’ Musically we wanted to get back to our early sound on songs like ‘Where Ya Been,’ and let the guitar riff really shine. We all grew up in the shadow of bands like Soundgarden and Nirvana, which we hope comes through in the energy of the music.”

Check out the video for “I Tried” below, especially if you were dying in the heat overtaking the Northeast today.

“The video was shot on a cold winter night with friends deep in the woods of Kingston, Washington,” Blackwood proclaims. “It captures our favorite part of the PNW — evergreen giants and fog!”
