Pylon Reenactment Society to Tour with Richard Barone

The week-long trek kicks off June 14 in Nashville

Over a year after releasing their magnificent album Magnet, Pylon Reenactment Society are going back out on the road for a week long tour of the Southeast that kicks off June 14 at The Blue Room in Nashville, Tennessee.

But they’re not hitting the road alone! Joining Vanessa Hay and company on this sojourn will be Hoboken rock icon Richard Barone, whose longtime band The Bongos has just released the killer live album, The Shroud of Touring: Live in 85, on JEM Records (watch this space for a review!). Barone’s recent single as a solo act, “All Fall Down” (Instant Records), features Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of Run-DMC.

The tandem will tour through June 20, appearing at such establishments as George’s George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Voyager’s Rest in Water Valley, Mississippi, Saturn in Birmingham, Alabama, and The Drunken Unicorn in Atlanta, Georgia.

The final show has them performing a free concert in Savannah, GA at The Park At The Eastern Wharf sponsored by Savannah Stopover.

“I first met Richard Barone and the rest of the Bongos when they all came to see Pylon in New York back in the early 1980’s,” said Hay. “We visited Richard’s apartment in Hoboken shortly thereafter when we played Maxwell’s and were all blown away by his hospitality. I’ve maintained a friendship with Richard through the years. He is one of my favorite people as well as a talented musician. Richard has generously opened for Pylon Reenactment Society several times in the past in the New York area, I am so happy he can come along on this Southeastern Tour starting June 14th. It’s going to be fun!”

“When The Bongos first heard Pylon, we were blown away,” added Barone. “There was something in their minimalism, catchy choruses, and oblique lyrics that reminded us of our own early songs. We considered the Athens music scene like a parallel universe to our scene in Hoboken. In fact, Athens and Atlanta were the first two places where The Bongos performed after Hoboken and New York City.

“Since those early days, Vanessa and I have shared the stage in many different ways and configurations, and it’s always amazing. She has joined me onstage for my solo shows, and I have guested with Pylon Reenactment Society on guitar. In 2020, The Bongos and PRS shared a bill at The Earl in Atlanta, with my mom in the front row. It was an unforgettable show that ended with both bands joining together for the encore to sing David Bowie’s ‘Heroes.’ That night, I felt we were all real heroes. Vanessa is truly like a sister to me, and anytime I have the opportunity to work with her and PRS, I am there!”
