Linnea Hjertén, keyboardist for the acclaimed Swedish doom rock ensemble Shaam Larein, has announced the release of her solo debut, due out on January 12th of the new year via Nordvis Produktion.

Entitled Nio systrar, which is Swedish for Nine Sisters, the album finds Hjertén sidestepping the PJ Harvey-meets-Black Sabbath flare of her other band in favor of a more wordless blend of Nordic folk melodies and haunting ambient rhythm recorded in the solitude of a small corner of her residence.

“Most of Nio systrar was recorded in my small closet with the lights off and the door closed,” Linnea explains in a public statement announcing the album. “In that setting, I can sense a closeness to my voice that I only find in solitude and darkness. My focus shifts to the intention I infuse into the sound waves. I’ve also mixed and produced everything at home; my apartment is a playground for music and magic. It mainly consists of books, altars and instruments.”

Rock & Roll Globe is honored to premiere an exclusive track off Nio systrar, the Dead Can Dance-invoking “Uppsåt,” which means “intent” in Swedish.

“Something lies ahead of you that you must overcome; it’s unavoidable,” describes Hjertén of the song’s feel. “You need to gather all the strength you know resides within – and direct it. You can feel it in your skin, in your blood. Something or someone may be lost along the way, and you know it. But you relish the strength that builds up in preparation.”

Nio systrar was recorded, mixed and produced by Hjertén, with additional samples and recordings by Ludvig Swärd, whose work as Forndom also plays a key role in the sound here.
