Happy Birthday Prince

Please enjoy this concert footage from the Purple One’s 1988 tour in support of Lovesexy, one of his most underrated albums. The late soul guitar legend would have turned 60 yesterday, and it was just announced there will be a collection of piano demos from 1983 that will be released later this year.

I was gutted by the news of Prince’s passing just over two years ago. Just awful. My girlfriend and I met him in 1995 at a screening of The Basketball Diaries in the Brill Building. He had “Slave” written in sharpie on his cheek and we were so thrilled to happen upon one of the world’s greatest songwriters in that building, a temple of songwriting. Years later, a colleague and I would play Prince songs at full volume and try in vain to match his perfect singing on “Call My Name” or whatever. I remember Jason Cohen telling me that Jeff Lescher from Green was in a class with Prince as a singer and thinking that was the highest compliment I’d ever heard anyone receive about anything. “I just can’t stop writing songs about you, I love you so much.”

Prince’s birthday was June 7th NOT June 8th. Do at least research before you publish!!!
