This Friday, the Columbus, Ohio indie rock collective Moviola will unveil their 11th LP in 30 years, called Earthbound.

Its release falls on the same weekend their label Dromedary Records is throwing its third annual Dromfest, where the band will celebrate the release of Earthbound on Saturday night with a performance before headliners Madder Rose and Yo La Tengo take the small stage at the Avalon in Catskill, New York.

However, fans can get an early taste of Earthbound’s staggered jangle with a sneak preview of the album’s melodic stroll of a title track today on Rock & Roll Globe.

“‘Earthbound’ is a good example of how a song can take on a life of its own,” explains Moviola frontman and chief architect Jake Housh. “I thought it was my weakest one and the lyrics felt unpolished and hokey. But the other guys liked it and eventually it became the title track and took on more meaning. With a recent death in the family, it has taken on more weight. Now, a couple years after writing it, I can see who it was mostly about.”

Recorded in Columbus, Brooklyn, and Brattleboro, Earthbound has been hailed as the most succinct effort of their career — a true band effort with all five members providing key input into its creation.

Fans of Wussy, Calexico and The Jayhawks alike will want to check these guys out, especially if you’ve been sleeping on them the past 30 years like me.

Pre-order Earthbound here, and then go backwards in their back catalog for best results.
