Brooklyn’s 12090 A.D. is a duo bringing dreamy synthpop cool to the streets of Kings County.

Comprised of longtime Sean Lennon collaborator Tim Kuhl and Australian-born NYC area luminary Anna Copa Cabanna, this quixotic tandem is preparing for their closeup as the debut 12090 A.D. LP will be released on April 24 via TK.

As someone currently embroiled in the sounds of 1986 for potential 40th Anniversary stories, hearing a group in 2026 emulate that pivotal era of electronic pop with the suave veneer of side alley darkness that gives this music its edge.

Rock & Roll Globe is honored to premiere “Shades,” the latest single off 12090 A.D.’s eponymous debut, today on the site.

“Tim gave me this wistful, Pretty in Pink music and the word ‘shades,’” Anna explains. “I immediately saw the kid me, in the small town looking out my window and dreaming. Wondering what it would be like for someone to come in their car and take me ‘away from all this.’ The end of the John Hughes movie! He’d pick me up, we’d smile at each other, we’d wear shades because there was so much sun. Completely different song but I can’t listen to Ween’s ‘Joppa Road’ without crying. The ‘baby you look great today’ is pretty much what everyone wants, no?

I’m so happy to see you…now let’s GO.”

I am pretty sure Dean and Gene would shed a tear for the dark neon sounds of 12090 A.D. in kind.
