WATCH: Wonderlick Lets Loose with “Muppet Legs”
The fifth single from the duo’s upcoming album Undisciplined is their most expensive yet

Nothing pairs with the early spring air quite like a new song from Wonderlick.
“Muppet Legs” is the fifth single from the duo’s upcoming album Undisciplined. The song itself is, according to the band, “about our near infinite capacity to believe in things that don’t really exist.”
“The lyrics to ‘Muppet Legs’ sprang from the realization that the monsters on Sesame Street did as much to instill a joy of reading and learning in me as any parent or teacher ever did,” explains singer and lyricist Tim Quirk of the song. “America can be so weirdly anti-intellectual that Harvard-educated politicians regularly decry ‘elites’ just to maintain their populist bona fides, but Sesame Street was a much more genuine attempt at egalitarianism: the puppets on that show were fascinated by letters and numbers and words, and what could happen when you combined some in just the right way.
“I have a very clear memory of Cookie Monster encountering some giant foam letters that spelled out F-O-O-D. He looked at them from multiple angles, sounded them out one by one, then all together, before finally covering them in salt and devouring them in a frenzy that saw foam crumbs flying everywhere. Wonderlick wishes everyone in America could be as hungry for knowledge as that curious, legless monster.”

The video for the tune, meanwhile, is an extension of the song’s theme, utilizing Quirk’s Pixel 6 Pro, Muppet versions of himself, his wife and his daughter the family received for Christmas one year and additional puppets purchased by Mrs. Quirk at a white elephant sale in Oakland, CA.
“This is the most expensive video Wonderlick has made so far,” Quirk explains. “The additional puppets only cost $11, but the free video editing software I used first charged him $50 to export the final cut without a watermark, and then another $20 on top of that for all the backgrounds I added in. But I’m still proud he did the whole thing for under $100, considering Warner Bros. used to spend $50,000 or more on Too Much Joy videos.”
Quirk and his longtime songwriting partner Jay Blumenfield have been releasing a single a month until Undisciplined officially comes out on April 5th. Keep up with Wonderlick on their BandCamp page here while you wait.
