Following the acclaim he received from his debut Meat Bones Chemicals Electricity, Eamon Ra returns with his sophomore LP, Dunce Witch Snowman.

Once again, Ra, whose real name is Eamon Francis Nordquist, produced this album of psychedelic flutter, folk rock whimsy and power pop bombast himself, largely recording at Avast Studios in Seattle.

“My long-time drummer Jeff Brown (Sterling Loons, Downpilot, Half Rushmore) played on the majority of the album, with guest spots on drums by other recent collaborators Michael Collins (Broken Sound, Bow Wow Wow), Timothy Meinig (formerly of Band of Horses), and Evan Schiller,” Ra explains. “Other portions of the album were also tracked at Evan Schiller’s Zulu Sound Studio and in Los Angeles for the Michael Collins contributions.”

Preceding the arrival of Dunce Witch Snowman is an animated video for the single “Up And At ‘Em,” directed by Nordquist’s friend Clyde Petersen of the Kill Rock Stars-signed band Your Heart Breaks, that Rock & Roll Globe is chuffed to premiere today on the site.

“I let Clyde choose the song that they felt most drawn to, and it was great fun talking about what elements we wanted to include and how to tell the story with favorite animals,” Ra explains of the video. “It’s now appeared in numerous animation and children’s animation film festivals around the country to great response.”

Eamon Ra also hopes the song’s message of exuding optimism in the face of dark challenges proves to inspire those it touches.

“‘Up And At ‘Em’ is essentially about optimism and living in the moment,” he proclaims. “The sun still rises every morning whether there’s clouds or not, and by the same token, a positive outlook can help overcome any obstacles to making the best of your day. In the context of the album, it represents the happy times before the darkness and troubles arrive.” Dunce Witch Snowman
