LISTEN: Davey Harris Bids “Aloha”
New solo EP, Animals Vol. 1, out now

Davey Harris, former percussionist for The Tins, is an animal lover.
And he has taken his affinity for critters to a new level on his excellent new solo set, Animals Vol. 1. The EP finds him leveraging his songwriting as a means of raising awareness of the plight of those who cannot vocally express themselves.
The recording features songs written for the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition (penguins), the International Cheetah Fund (cheetahs), the Congo Rainforest Fund (gorillas). Harris was a featured performer at the COP28 UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

While the subject matter mark a contrast from his usual mix of autobiographical fantastical commentary on life, love, sex and dying, the songs on Animals Vol. 1 fit rather nicely into the same family of weird, esoteric, thoughtful music for which Harris is becoming known.
Rock & Roll Globe is honored to premiere the album’s latest single “Aloha,” Harris’s salute to Hawaii imbued with elements of Elliott Smith and acoustic T.Rex in its muscular melodies.

“This is a song created to honor the island of Kauai… similar to Toto’s ‘Africa,’” he explains. “It was inspired by an individual who has lived most of his life on the island and knows of its beauty and pure energy. The song is intended as a magic spell that shares Aloha Vibes all over the planet… because most people can use some good old fashion aloha in their life. Also, I wrote the song on a hammock in Hawaii. I had the idea for the song… then fell asleep on the hammock, and then woke up with the finished song in my head. It was aloha inspired.”
