Detroit’s own modern jazz luminary, composer/bassist/cellist Noah Jackson, returns to wax for the first time in 15 years with his anticipated sophomore set Full Circle.

“The gap between (first album) Contemplations and Full Circle is a combination of years of being a career sideman in New York City, COVID and an artistic vision coming into view,” Jackson tells Rock & Roll Globe. “I was building my career in NYC and hadn’t had the opportunity to put out work at that time. When COVID hit, I had to relocate back to Detroit and used a lot of my resources. After some time here in Detroit, I began to see a clear vision for how I saw my music evolving — worldly, rhythmic, musical, and connective. The way I heard and played music changed as well and I wanted to create a project to reflect who I am as an artist and gather my tribe. And thus Full Circle is born.”

Full Circle doesn’t come out until April 24, but we are beyond proud to give readers an early preview of the new album in the form of its first single “Be ‘Bout It” today on the site.

“‘Be ‘Bout It’ was written while I was on tour with Abdullah Ibrahim in San Francisco,” Jackson explains. “I heard the bassline in my head and recorded it. Years later, I went through my ideas and heard a melody that matched the bass line you hear.

“I drew inspiration from my travels in South Africa with Abdullah over the years and I wanted to have a song that made a statement about authenticity and action. The theme harkens to age-old wisdom: Don’t talk about it, be ‘bout it!”

Full Circle is just about everything we love about classic jazz, so please check out this preview below and watch this space for more news on this most accomplished musician.
