André 3000 has announced a run of intimate Winter tour in support of his brilliant instrumental album, New Blue Sun, which was released in November on Epic Records.

Co-produced by André and lauded multi-instrumentalist Carlos Niño, and featuring the playing of Nate Mercereau, Surya Botofasina, Deantoni Parks, Diego Gaeta, Matthewdavid, V.C.R, Diego Gaeta, Jesse Peterson and Mia Doi Todd, New Blue Sun is a six-sided sojourn into the healing, meditative sonic space the former OutKast rapper finds himself in at this point in his career.

Joining André on the road to bring New Blue Sun to life is Botofasina on keyboards, percussionist and DJ Niño, guitarist Mercereau and Parks, who has played with such heavyweights as John Cale, Meshell Ndegeocello and The Mars Volta, behind the drum kit. Those familiar with these names will recognize what a fantastic band that’s been put together here. Hopefully someone will be recording.

The tour will kick off on January 29 in Brooklyn, NY followed by a three night residency at the legendary Blue Note Jazz Club in Manhattan, where André and his collaborators will play two shows per night. They’ll make stops in Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta and San Francisco before finishing with a five night stint at The Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever in Los Angeles. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, January 24 at 10am local time HERE. All dates below.

New Blue Sun was one of Rock & Roll Globe’s 40 best albums of 2023, with writer Ted Miller stating, “I don’t listen to enough new jazz to tell you whether or not this descended from the descendants of Alice Coltrane’s ashram. But I do listen to enough Jon Hassell to praise the widescreen, spacious environment one of the all-time greatest rappers has pivoted to presenting here.”

Botofasina, Mercereau and Niño, meanwhile, have a wild new trio album called Subtle Movements out now on Matthewdavid’s Leaving Records imprint. It was inspired by the three men’s time swimming in the Pacific Ocean.

Really looking forward to those Blue Note shows. That’ll be a real hot ticket.
