LISTEN: Remembering Rocco Prestia
A salute to the pioneering funk bassist and lifelong Tower of Power member, gone at 69

Any bass player worth going gaga over learned a thing or two from Tower of Power bassist and fingerstyle funk innovator Rocco Prestia, who died at the age of 69.
“Our dear “Rocco” passed away last night, peacefully with his family by his side at a hospice in Las Vegas,” wrote Tower of Power bandleader Emilio Castillo on the band’s official Facebook page. “As a bass player he was totally unique and as a person he was one of a kind. He fought a long fight over the last 20 years and now he’s with the Lord and heaven is his home. To say that Francis Rocco Prestia was a huge part of the Tower of Power sound is a gross understatement. When people listened to Tower of Power it was always Rocco that they walked away talking about and he had a major impact on the music world.”
In honor of his life, the Rock & Roll Globe is honored to present this exclusive playlist chronicling our most favorite TOP funk jams from 1970 to 1991. We hope you enjoy.
Peaceful journey, Rocco.
