LISTEN: Award Winning Producer Reimagines Nirvana
Jonathan Hay rewires Kurt Cobain and Co. for House and Techno

At first mention, rock fans might scoff at the idea of reimagining the music of Nirvana for House and Techno.
Surely Kurt Cobain would roll in his grave at the notion of such a soundclash, right?
Well, under the esteemed artistry of award-winning producer Jonathan Hay, the concept is indeed a pleasant surprise, a creative journey that proved to be a labor of love for the producer.
It also proved to be cathartic, as Come as You Are: Nirvana Reimagined as House and Techno was manifested during a dark period for Hay, enduring the near-loss of his girlfriend to a fentanyl overdose, the pains of an unresolved lawsuit and the passing of his biological mother. But what blossomed out of such personal trials is a creative sunburst that finds Hay working alongside a number of underground dance music acts including Daniela Carter, TECHROW, 41x, Mink and Spacepunks among others that takes the artistry of Nirvana into uncharted dimensions.

The storied producer harnessed his passion and love for Nirvana to conquer his hardships, all the while refusing to let his depression and PTSD deter him from bringing his dream project into fruition. Meanwhile, JT Barnett (original producer and director of Tiger King) and Brooklyn creative Craig Guerra are bringing all of this to life in the upcoming documentary House Invasion. Watch this space.
“I really hope Frances Bean Cobain appreciates Come As You Are: Nirvana Reimagined as House and Techno because it seems as if she may understand the essence of Burning Man and house music culture,” Hay tells Rock & Roll Globe. “A lot of Nirvana fans will be offended by our genre-flipped tribute, but I could care less, as this album was created with deep adoration for Kurt Cobain and his advocacy spirit. The core of house music is all about love and positivity, which, despite all the angst, is what Nirvana is truly about. I think if Kurt was alive, he would support the songs he wrote reimagined into house and techno music.”
Come As You Are: Nirvana Reimagined as House and Techno comes out on October 7th 2022 through Fat Beats Records. Pre-order here.
