Some of the best Americana of the 21st Century has actually been created on the other side of the planet in Oceania.

And alongside the likes of Australisn stars Keith Urban and Kacey Chambers as well as such fellow Kiwis as John Grenel and Suzanne Prentice is New Zealand’s own Jackie Bristow, whose new album, Outsider, is due out March 4, 2022 on Mesa Bluemoon Records.

Recorded with her longtime collaborator and renowned Aussie country producer Mark Punch just before COVID-19 shut us down, this new album is a warm, earthy blend of acoustic and electric guitars, pedal steel and banjo, embellished by string and horn arrangements by producer Rick Price and orchestrator Kristin Wilkinson that really gives Outsider the richness and feel of the Nashville streets from which these songs sprung.

Also gracing the LP are session wizards like drummer Fred Eltringham (Sheryl Crow, Carrie Underwood) and pedal steel player Dan Dugmore (James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt), among others,  giving the album the feel of a classic Jimmy Webb record.

Rock & Roll Globe is honored to premiere the video for Outsider’s title track this morning on the site. Directed by Mark’s wife Paula Punch, the video serves as a travelogue of Bristow’s adventure from her homeland to America.

“The video for ’Outsider’ captures snatches of my life traveling and playing music in Los Angeles, Nashville and San Diego,” she tells us. “This song tells a story of how it it feels to move from a small rural town Gore at the bottom of New Zealand to and moving alone taking my chances and moving to a bigger world, breaking into scenes in Sydney, Australia and then making the big move to music cities like to Los Angles CA, Austin TX, and Nashville TN USA and along this tough road. miracles that can happen and the incredible people you meet you that welcome you to the inside and finding your inner circle and making real friendships that last a lifetime.”
